Credit Card Application – The Starting Point

Credit card comparison is the key to finding the best credit card deals possible. But all your efforts will be for naught if your credit card application gets stamped with R-E-J-E-C-T-E-D in bold red letters. Thus, to help you secure the approval of your application, a quick application guideline is in order.

It may come as a surprise that despite the over-eagerness of credit card companies to market their products, as your junk mails stand witness, there is a high rejection rate for a credit card application. Other than poor credit history, here are some common mistakes that scream rejection in the credit card application form that you should take good care to avoid:

1. Wrong contact details. This includes misspelled addresses, wrong or lacking telephone numbers and wrong zip codes. These mistakes may seem harmless and innocent but they are serious enough to result in a denial. Take note that credit card companies live off of your payments. Now that will surely become impossible if they cannot locate or contact you come payment time. So, make sure to fill in the details carefully and check it twice!

2. Failure to fill in mandatory fields. You cannot miss these portions of the application forms as they are usually red lined and marked with an asterisk. However, despite all these cautionary measures, it is very common for applicants to miss at least one of these crucial fields. The common mistake is to skip one field with the intention of going back to it later; unfortunately, skipped fields are usually forgotten. Again, check the form twice!

3. Bad handwriting. You have taken pains in filling in all portions of the application form with the correct information. However, your efforts will not actually mean anything if the credit card application processor cannot make sense of your handwriting. The key is to write legibly. Write in big letters to make sure that they are readable. If your handwriting is really bad, do yourself a favor and ask someone else to fill in the credit card application form for you.
